With criticism of Bolsonaro, Lula takes stock of the 100 days of government

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took stock of the actions and programs of the first 100 days of government, with criticism of the previous administration of former president Jair Bolsonaro. “From 2018 to 2022, we know the offenses that democracy suffered,” said the president.

The PT accused Bolsonaro of having spent Union funds, with the aim of “perpetuating fascism in the country”. He referred to the January 8 attacks, which he described as “an attempted coup by a group of reactionaries, fascists, and the extreme right who did not want to leave power”.

The balance sheet was presented, this Monday morning (10), in a ceremony at the Planalto Palace, with the presence of all ministers and government leaders in the National Congress.

Deputy Geraldo Alckmin was the first to speak at the event, and said that the current government “saved democracy from the coup”. For him, the current PT administration “listens more and makes less mistakes”.

On the occasion, the government launched a campaign to praise the programs and policies launched at the beginning of the administration with the slogan “Brazil is back”. Jargon was used by the president several times in his speech.

“Brazil has returned to take care, above all, of the Brazilian men and women who need it most and who in recent years have been the main victim of the absence of government in this country. Brazil has returned to reconcile economic growth with social inclusion, to rebuild and move forward. Brazil has returned to be a country without hunger again”, enumerated the president.

On the economy, Lula said that he has reason to be optimistic and demanded commitment from his ministers, saying that the government needs to create a positive climate. The president also defended the approval of the new fiscal framework and again complained about the interest rate maintained by the Central Bank, at 13.75%. “I continue to think that they are playing with the country, playing above all with the poor people, and with businessmen who want to invest, just don’t see who doesn’t want to”, said Lula.

The petista also spoke about the performance of public banks in guaranteeing loans more easily to the Brazilian people. “Good money, it’s not money kept in a safe, it’s money generating work, development and employment”, he said. He then added that he will govern responsibly, noting that “we cannot spend in an unbridled and disoriented way”.

Lula stressed that the current government has to govern for the most vulnerable people, and not for the rich and people who evade taxes. And she also highlighted the current government’s respect for women and black people, by combating “gender violence” and racism.

In the area of ​​education, Lula commented on the readjustment in research grants, with variations from 25% to 200%, between undergraduate, graduate, scientific initiation and Permanence Scholarships. He cited the readjustment in the value of transfers to states and municipalities to fund school lunches, in increases that reached 39%.

To mark the first 100 days of the PT administration, the government released a list of 250 actions and public policies that were carried out and presented. Among the measures, in addition to the resumption of the Bolsa Família, Mais Médicos and “Minha casa, minha vida” programs, include initiatives aimed at the Yanomami indigenous population, the return of the Amazon Fund and the Food Security Council.
