Wingers who play with the foot changed – 04/25/2023 – Tostão

Fast wingers and dribblers are historical characters in Brazilian football, although in none of the five World Cups won by Brazil have there been two typical wingers.

Many wingers with the wrong foot, skilful and dribblers, do not acquire other virtues, do not perform other technical fundamentals well. Pedrinho from Atlético-MG looked like a future star when he started playing for Corinthians. He didn’t evolve. It’s still time.

Some wingers with the wrong foot learn to dribble to the center and finish with the inside of the foot, strong and curved, out of reach of the goalkeeper, like Mauricio’s goal in Inter’s victory over Flamengo. Mauricio needs to evolve in dribbling and building plays.

This Wednesday (26th), in the great English derby between Manchester City and Arsenal, we will see excellent wingers who play with different feet, such as Saka, Martinelli, Mahrez and Grealish.

The ideal would be to have wingers that dribble to both sides and that cross and finish with the same quality with both feet. The only one who does this is the Frenchman Dembélé, who plays for Barcelona. But he is very erratic, sometimes confused and doesn’t have Vinicius Junior’s talent.

The winger with the wrong foot is a football breakthrough, although the winger of the past is missing, who dribbled to the bottom line and crossed. Because we like one way to play, we don’t need to devalue the other. There’s room for both.
