Wilson Lima strengthens protection for the ZFM and says that the state’s defense is strengthened

Declaration was made in the presence of the new holder of Sedecti, in addition to deputies and senators and other state authorities

Manaus (AM) – Governor Wilson Lima highlighted, this Monday (23), that the state government team is attentive and strengthened to defend the interests of Amazonas, mainly regarding the maintenance and competitiveness of the Manaus Free Trade Zone. The statement was made during the inauguration of the new head of the Secretariat for Economic Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Sedecti), Pauderney Avelino, at the headquarters of the State Government.

According to the governor, the secretariat’s new technical team has the mission of continuing to work to ensure the full functioning of the model, the most successful in Amazonas, in addition to seeking new matrices for the state.

“Secretary Pauderney joins this group formed by the Treasury Department, technicians who have been following these discussions for a long time and other economists from the state of Amazonas, who have experience and an understanding of which path we should follow so that the we have a tax reform. We agree that Brazil has to have a tax reform, which does not compromise models of regional, economic development as is the case of the Manaus Free Trade Zone”,

highlighted Wilson Lima.

In the presence of Vice-Governor Tadeu de Souza; state deputies, such as the president of the Legislative Assembly of the State of Amazonas (Aleam), Roberto Cidade; Senators Omar Aziz and Plinio Valério; Mayor David Almeida and Deputy Marcos Rotta; the president of the Federation of Industries of Amazonas (Fieam), Antônio Silva, in addition to secretaries and other representatives of public institutions and industry and commerce, the governor spoke about strengthening the model to, then, seek new economic alternatives, which are sustainable, but that, mainly, benefit the Amazonian population.

The governor highlighted the positive impact of the ZFM for the region, as it generates more than 500,000 direct and indirect jobs in the state and highlighted that other ways of strengthening the local economy are in progress, such as tourism and sustainability.

Development

Sedecti is the government agency that develops state planning and coordinates public policies related to socioeconomic development, science and innovation in Amazonas and is also responsible for the Development Council of the State of Amazonas (Codam), which is tasked with advising the state on issues of social and economic development and approving private entrepreneurship projects, with a view to granting tax and extra-fiscal incentives from the state, in accordance with current legislation.

Appointed last Thursday (19), Pauderney Avelino has been a federal deputy six times, being recognized for his work in defense of the Manaus Free Trade Zone. On Friday (20th), as determined by Governor Wilson Lima, the new holder of Sedecti was in Brasília, meeting with the vice-president and Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, Geraldo Alckmin (PSB), to discuss about the future of the Manaus Free Trade Zone (ZFM) in the current economic scenario.

“We have an entity to preserve, which is our Manaus Free Trade Zone. We cannot give up. I dare say, Governor, that putting together all the activity that the Manaus Free Trade Zone produces, we have 80% of all wealth produced in the state of Amazonas based on this model that we have.”,
