The Presidency’s corporate card was used to buy R$ 292.70 in wine (eight bottles of assorted types) and R$ 9.69 in a bottle of 51-brand brandy, according to invoices organized by the Sejam Sabendo agency, which obtained the material via LAI (Access to Information Law).
The records of the purchase of alcoholic beverages, all from 2019 and made in Brasília, point out that the most expensive wine purchased with the card, a Portuguese one, cost R$77. . The purchase of cachaça coincided with the purchase of ingredients for feijoada and barbecue, such as meat and side dishes.
The rules for using the card are vague, but a booklet by the CGU (Comptroller General of the Union) to guide servers discourages the purchase of alcoholic beverages. According to the document, these expenses “cannot be covered by public funds, except for official receptions”.
There are no records, in the notes made public so far, of the purchase of other alcoholic beverages. The amounts charged to the Presidency of the Republic’s corporate card include not only the president’s direct expenses, but also those of the team that closely monitors him, among other expenses.
