Manacapuru, Caapiranga and Manaquiri (AM) – Governor Wilson Lima coordinated, this Wednesday (11), the delivery of humanitarian aid with 3,000 basic food baskets to the municipalities of Manacapuru, Caapiranga and Manaquiri (68, 134 and 60 kilometers from Manaus, respectively). The forecast is that more than 100,000 families across the state will be affected by the severe drought and will receive humanitarian aid, such as the sending of basic food baskets, hygiene kits, drinking water and medicines.

During a visit to the São Francisco de Assis community, 30 minutes away by boat from the headquarters of Manacapuru, Wilson Lima reinforced the commitment of the Government of Amazonas to provide assistance to populations affected by the drought, which has already placed 45 municipalities in emergency and another 15 on alert by Tuesday (10), affecting 97 thousand families (around 392 thousand people).

In addition to basic food baskets, 200 hygiene kits were also delivered, a donation from the United Nations High Commissioner (UNHCR) to the State Government, through the Secretariat of Justice and Citizenship (Sejusc); approximately 10 thousand glasses of water by the Amazonas Sanitation Company (Cosama); food kits in the Merenda em Casa project. The implementation of the Food Acquisition Program (PAA) also began.

“We are coming here to deliver basic food baskets, drinking water, UNHCR personal hygiene kits and here we are also dispatching basic food baskets to Manaquiri, Caapiranga, in short, we have a series of actions, a logistical schedule for ensure that this food reaches the people who need it most. In São Francisco de Assis alone, 200 basic food baskets were delivered to benefit 140 families, including the neighboring communities of Cristo Reis and São Francisco de Canindé. Deliveries were also made to the city hall at the municipal headquarters.

“It will greatly alleviate our suffering and that of several people because the difficulty is very great. So this help came at a good time because there are elderly people who are going through a lot of difficulty, who need this support”,

said fisherman Esdras Souza, 39, resident of the São Francisco de Assis community.

Still in the community, the governor delivered Merenda em Casa kits. In total, Manacapuru has already received 657 kits, out of a total of 1,476 delivered in 16 municipalities. According to the State Department of Education, there are already more than 5,500 students affected by the impacts of the drought in the rural areas of the capital and in the interior.

A total of 21 rural producers in these areas also benefited from approximately R$300,000 through the Federal Government’s PAA, which will also benefit 1,100 rural producers from 56 municipalities in Amazonas.

On the occasion, Wilson Lima announced that the Civil Defense of Amazonas will install two water purifiers in the community, which collect water directly from rivers and take it, through tubes, to a water tank, where it is completely treated and remains. ready for consumption.

In addition to the governor, the state education secretaries, Kuka Chaves, participated in the agenda; of Citizenship and Justice (Sejusc), Jussara Pedrosa; of Rural Production (Sepror), Daniel Borges; the director-president of the Institute for Sustainable Agricultural and Forestry Development of Amazonas (Idam), Vanderlei Alvino; da Cosama, Armando do Valle; and Civil Defense, Colonel Francisco Máximo; in addition to state deputy Cristiano D’Angelo; and the mayor of Manacapuru, Beto D’ngelo; city ​​councilors and community leaders.

The mayor of Caapiranga, Tico Braz, also received from Governor Wilson Lima basic food baskets that were being shipped at the port of the National Department of Transport Infrastructure (Dnit) in Manacapuru.

Later this week, the delivery of basic food baskets will reach the municipalities of Alvarães, Silves, Coari, Fonte Boa, Japurá and Maraã (1 thousand baskets each); Tefé (2 thousand baskets). In the coming days, deliveries are also planned for the municipalities in the Alto Solimões channel (7 thousand baskets).
