Wilson Lima and vice-president Alckmin deliver new unit of the Água Boa project in Iranduba

Delivery of a water purifier serves around 500 people in the Catalão community, affected by the drought

Governor Wilson Lima, the vice-president and minister of Development, Industry and Commerce, Geraldo Alckmin, and ministers from the Federal Government, delivered a new structure for the Água Boa project, from the Government of Amazonas, in the community of Catalão, in Iranduba (the 27 kilometers from the capital). The purifier opened this Wednesday (4) will benefit approximately 120 families and 480 people.

“This water here is from the river, treated,” the governor informed the vice president, who was drinking a glass of water from the purifier. Wilson Lima also explained that the structure has a box to store 5 thousand liters of captured water, which passes through a purifier and is suitable for human consumption, and also a pump for distribution.

Accompanying the governor on the agenda, in addition to vice-president Alckmin, were ministers Marina Silva (Environment and Climate Change), Sônia Guajajara (Indigenous Peoples), Waldez Góes (Integration and Regional Development), Silvio Costa Filho (Ports and Airports), Alexandre Silveira (Mines and Energy), José Mucio Monteiro (Defense) and other representatives of the Federal Government, who came to monitor the drought situation in Amazonas.

Also present were Senator Omar Aziz; federal deputies Amom Mandel, Sidney Leite and Saullo Viana; the executive secretary of Civil Defense, cel. Francisco Máximo; and the mayor of Manaus, David Almeida.

In this dry period alone, 29 structures of this type have already been delivered by the State, through the Civil Defense of Amazonas, benefiting 1 thousand families in the municipalities of Uarini (2), Urucurituba (3), Careiro da Várzea (7), Itacoatiara ( 3), Codajás (5), Fonte Boa (8) and Iranduba (1), benefiting approximately 4 thousand people and 1 thousand families.

Operation

The new purifiers work based on a very simple system, which collects water directly from rivers and takes it, through tubes, to a water tank, which goes through the process of separating impurities.

Once the water is clear, chlorine is added to it to be disinfected. It then passes through a filter that contains minerals to carry out further purification. After that, just turn on the tap and the water, fully treated, is drinkable and ready for consumption.

State Civil Defense agents also guide residents on how to operate, maintain and carry out the water cleaning procedure.

Good Water Project

Conceived and implemented during the administration of Governor Wilson Lima, starting in 2019, the Água Boa project has units deployed from the Civil Defense and the Amazonas Sanitation Company (Cosama).

Currently, Civil Defense has approximately 400 purifiers installed in 49 municipalities in the state. On the part of Cosama, the Água Boa project is present in 13 municipalities in the interior, serving 27 riverside communities with 33 installed systems.
