Who will Lula choose for the TRF-1 vacancies? – 03/23/2023 – Monica Bergamo

With the spotlight turned to the succession to vacancies in the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and in the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), an important dispute in the Judiciary —the choice of federal judges who will be promoted to judges of the Federal Regional Court of the 1st Region, in Brasilia— had been eclipsed, but has just gained new contours.

Released by TRF-1 on Wednesday night (22), the list of nine names nominated for the promotion actually brings eight magistrates in the dispute for six of the seven original vacancies, as Marcelo Albernaz appears for the third time. His appointment, therefore, is guaranteed by law.

It is then up to President Lula (PT) to choose six names among the eight on the list. Curiosity: there are at least two convinced Bolsonaristas among the candidates.

According to people heard by the column, Candice Lavocat Galvão Jobim meets two conditions that put her in a position of favoritism in this dispute: she is a woman (which is in line with President Lula’s gender equality speech in his nominations) and the ex-minister’s daughter-in-law of Defense and former president of the STF, Nelson Jobim.

Lula and Jobim, as you know, are very good friends.

The TRF-1, in Brasilia, is considered the most important appellate court in the country for covering federal conflicts in nine states of the federation.
