Who is Ferroviário, the next tricolor opponent in the Copa do Brasil

After easily passing through Campinense, from Paraíba, Grêmio wants to continue advancing in the Copa do Brasil and not to be unlucky. This Thursday (16), at 20h, Tricolor receives Ferroviário, from Ceará, for the second round of the tournament. At this stage of the competition, in case of a tie in normal time, the vacancy will be decided on penalties. And the Gremista opponent is going through a good moment of the season. To face Tricolor, Ferroviário beat Resende, in Rio de Janeiro, by 2-1.

Undefeated in nine games (five wins and four draws), Ferrão is coached by Paulinho Kobayashi, a former striker who has played for several clubs in the country, mainly in São Paulo, where he stood out at Santos. As a coach, the 53-year-old professional managed most of the clubs in the North and Northeast of Brazil and has been in the team since the beginning of the year, after Ferroviário was relegated to the national Série D.

The team has yet to lose in the Copa do Nordeste and secured a place in the next phase of the competition. For the Cearense Championship, this weekend, Ferrão drew 1-1 with Fortaleza, in the first leg, as principal, at Arena Castelão. The decision for a place in the decision will be next Sunday, again in Castelão.

The goal that secured the tie with Fortaleza was scored by left-back Felipe Guedes, who played for Grêmio between 2011 and 2012. The highlights of the team commanded by Kobayashi are its forwards: Erick Pulga and Ciel. Both are responsible for 19 goals for the team – Ciel scored ten, while Pulga scored the other nine. This season, the Ceará team played 16 matches, with eight wins, six draws and two defeats.

In the Northeast Cup, Ferrão drew more than he won, but he still hasn’t been defeated – there are three wins and four draws. The triumphs were over Santa Cruz, Campinense-PB and Ceará. The ties were with ABC-RN, Sergipe, CSA and Bahia. Already qualified for the quarterfinals, the team closes the group stage against Nautico.

After going to the field with the reserves and drawing with Ypiranga, on Saturday, the group returned to full training this Monday. After the game for the Copa do Brasil, Tricolor will have the first match of the semifinals again with Ypiranga, in Erechim. The duel will be next Sunday at 16 pm. The second leg is scheduled for Saturday, the 25th, at 4:30 pm, at the Arena.
