The municipal and presidential elections are already mobilizing the so-called political bubbles. On the left, the idea of reelection of President Luiz Inácio da Silva is consolidated for 2026 and on the right, the replacement of Jair Bolsonaro is articulated, including tests in the presentation of names of possible candidates.
One character, however, is outside this movement. It is the center, thus understood as the representation of a desire of the majority indicated by opinion polls (57%) for an alternative to the two opposing camps that are considered extreme.
Despite the electorate’s preference for transiting on a central avenue, the politicians presented around 2020, 2021 and early 2022 as candidates for representatives of this contingent have so far not shown up for the game. Once again, they give the impression that they are not organized in advance because they consider that the said polarization will continue to prevail.
Where are the people who at a given moment appeared as a possibility for bursting the bubbles? Each one followed their respective destiny, some more others less visible and/or available to occupy the alternative space for the next presidential race.
Former governor João Doria turned to a business career and swears that he will not return to electoral politics; Luciano Huck returned to his career as a presenter; Luiz Mandetta lost the Senate election in Mato Grosso do Sul; Sergio Moro fights not to lose the senator’s mandate for Paraná.
Rodrigo Pacheco, in the presidency of the Senate, postulates nomination to the Federal Supreme Court, Eduardo Leite is busy governing Rio Grande do Sul, Ciro Gomes is fed up with the political dispute, Geraldo Alckmin is vice president and Simone Tebet, minister. Both tied to the Lula government.
As you can see, either the third way takes the field right away or it won’t be viable again.
