Bolsonaro is the target of actions in the Judiciary; see what they are – 06/30/2023 – Power

Former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), declared ineligible by the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) this Friday (30), will still respond to inquiries and a series of lawsuits in various instances of the Brazilian Judiciary, in addition to other actions in the electoral court and at the STF (Federal Supreme Court).

Most of the questions come from Bolsonaro’s attitudes during his term, including his behavior during the Covid-19 pandemic, in addition to investigations into the digital militias inquiry, and even statements given before arriving at Planalto, when he was a federal deputy.

In the electoral field, the former President of the Republic responds to 15 other processes related to the 2022 elections, but for different conducts.

Events
Different actions point to the distortion of official government events in order to gain electoral advantage, such as those aimed at the commemorations of the 200th anniversary of the Independence of Brazil, Bolsonaro’s speech at the UN General Assembly (United Nations) and his trip to Queen Elizabeth II’s wake.

misinformation
One of the actions targets what has been called the “Bolsonarist disinformation ecosystem”, and alleges the use of social networks to disseminate untrue data in order to impact the election. Another action targets attacks on the electoral system, including actions by the Federal Highway Police in the second round.

Benefits
Another request questions the granting of social benefits on the eve of the election, claiming that it would be to influence voters’ choice. The anticipation of the payment of the Auxílio Brasil and the Vale-Gás are mentioned, in addition to the increase in the number of beneficiaries and the release of payroll loans for the programs.

There are also actions aimed at the alleged carrying out of campaign acts on the premises of the Palácio do Planalto and Alvorada, pointing to requests for votes for allies in lives or seeing an illicit act in meetings with governors, federal deputies and celebrities in support of the then president, distorted the purpose public buildings.

Actions in the STF

January 8th
Bolsonaro was included in the actions of the STF that investigate alleged instigators and masterminds of the January 8 coup attacks. Two days after the invasions in Brasília, the former president shared a video with unproven accusations to the STF and TSE. Covid-19 pandemic
An inquiry into the behavior of the then president during the Covid-19 pandemic is also running in the country’s Supreme Court. According to the Federal Police, Bolsonaro committed incitement to crime by encouraging people not to wear masks and associating the use of the vaccine against the disease with the development of HIV, the AIDS virus. There has still been no decision from Minister Alexandre de Moraes, the case’s rapporteur.

The former president of the Republic has been a defendant in the Supreme Court since 2016 for inciting rape and insult against federal deputy Maria do Rosário (PT-RS), for saying that the parliamentarian did not deserve to be raped because she is “very ugly”. The procedure was interrupted when Bolsonaro took over the Planalto and sent to the first instance.

Another investigative process in which Bolsonaro is targeted is that of digital militias, opened by Moraes in 2021, at the STF. The former president became part of this investigation for attacking the Brazilian voting system, in particular the smoothness of electronic ballot boxes.

The PF is still investigating Bolsonaro for actions involving Saudi jewelry, initially valued at R$ 16.5 million. Mauro Cid, former assistant to the former president, is also investigated in this investigation, and the corporation seeks to know whether the retired Army captain acted to keep the items, owned by the Presidency.
