WhatsApp announces, this Thursday (7), an audio sending feature that can only be heard once. After listening to the message in full, the platform deletes the audio, as happens in single-view videos and photos.

The new feature will be launched globally in the coming days. To receive the feature, the user must keep the application updated, on the Play Store (for Android smartphone owners) or on the App Store (for iPhones).

To send the single-playback audio, the person must slide the record message button up. WhatsApp shows a new button with an icon in the format of the number “1”, which must be selected to activate the feature. The process is similar to sending single-playback videos and photos, available on the app since 2021.

The feature allows you to share confidential information securely via voice message, according to the application’s announcement. “Whether it’s to give your credit card details to a friend or when you’re planning a surprise.”

Just like single-view photos and videos, voice messages with this feature are marked with an icon with the number 1 and can only be played once.

WhatsApp says it protects voice messages with end-to-end encryption by default.
