We managed to place a “communist minister” in the STF, says Lula about Dino

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) celebrated this Thursday (14) that, for the “first time in history”, the government managed to place a “communist minister” in the Federal Supreme Court (STF). The president referred to the approval by the Senate of the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, to occupy a vacancy on the Court. Dino was a member of the Communist Party of Brazil (PCdoB) for 15 years.

“You don’t know how happy I am today, for the first time in the history of this country, we managed to place a communist minister on the Supreme Court, a companion of Flávio Dino’s quality”, said Lula when participating in the opening of the 4th National Youth Conference.

During his speech, the president once again demanded the mobilization of activists for the next elections and said that it is necessary to talk to those outside the left and right political parties. “Often, we talk to ourselves, we love to make speeches to ourselves… Let’s argue with those who are not ours. We are going to politicize this country, We are going to form new socialists, more people on the left”, stated Lula.

“We have to talk to people you don’t like, people you even resent when you see Lula on TV talking to these people. In politics, we have to understand that we talk to those who are elected, because He’s the one who has the vote and that’s how we get approval [projetos importantes]”, reinforced the PT member.

After approval, opposition senators criticized Dino for being a “communist”

Dino received 47 votes in favor and 31 against in the vote in the Senate plenary. To occupy the vacancy in the Supreme Court, he needed 41 favorable votes among the 81 senators. The opposition criticized the approval of the STF and the fact that Dino was a communist. Senator Magno Malta (PL-ES) stated that he voted against the nomination because Dino is a “communist” and because he does not believe that the minister will, in fact, free himself from his political profile when he arrives at the Court, despite the mild tone adopted in the hearing held at the Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ).

The Minister of Justice sought to avoid the communist label during the hearing and focused on his career as a judge and as a parliamentarian when answering the senators’ questions. Among the 27 CCJ holders, 17 voted in favor of Dino and 10 against. The president of Novo, Eduardo Ribeiro, criticized the choice of a “convinced communist” for the Supreme Court and defended a profound renewal in the Senate in 2026. “A communist in the STF is inadmissible”, said federal deputy Zucco (PL-RS).

“Shame! Dino approved. We have a subservient Senate. Now there is a communist in the STF with no appreciation for democracy and freedom. Congratulations to the 31 senators who voted against this nonsense. That in 2026 we have the organization to elect senators of character and that we know who to vote for”, said the leader of the opposition in the Chamber, deputy Carlos Jordy (PL-RJ).
