After the Chamber of Deputies approved the tax reform, this Friday (15), the president of the house, Arthur Lira (PP-AL), celebrated the approval and highlighted the “reformist role” of the National Congress.
“Congress, for the most part, is reformist and liberal, and this contributed to the approval of the labor reform, the pension reform, and now the long-awaited tax reform”, highlighted the parliamentarian, in a live interview with TV Camera.
According to Lira, the congressmen and the rapporteur of the proposal Aguinaldo Ribeiro (PP-PB) were committed to guaranteeing “a text that provides longevity, peace and simplicity, that reduces bureaucracy, attracts investments and benefits companies”.
“We don’t have the audacity to say that we created a perfect text, but a possible text within parliament, which has the diversity of thought and the diverse quality of different positions that think about its population”, declared Lira.
He also highlighted that the new tax system based on the unification of taxes in the value-added model is used successfully by more than 170 countries.
Brazilians, according to Lira, can expect a simpler system with the potential to attract investments. “The intention of the reform is to be neutral, it will reduce bureaucracy and simplify. Everyone will know what they pay in taxes, and we hope to take advantage of the transition to make Brazil the country of the present and not the country of the future”, he concluded.
The President of the Chamber said that the promulgation of the proposal should take place next Wednesday (12/20), in a joint session of the National Congress.
