“We cannot let the STF take away space from the Legislature”, says senator

When commenting on the recent trials underway at the Federal Supreme Court (STF) in relation to issues that, in theory, should be debated in Congress, senator Izalci Lucas (PSDB-DF) said that parliamentarians will react to the Supreme Court’s interference in themes such as the time frame and the decriminalization of abortion and drugs.

“We will seek a vote on the time frame, we will not leave the Supreme Court the way it is. We have already done the PEC (against) the decriminalization of drugs, we have already held a plebiscite and there is already a lot of progress in relation to abortion. We cannot let the Supreme Court, with the approval of the Executive, take away space from the Legislature”, said the leader of the PSDB in the Senate during an interview with Jornal da Manhã, on Jovem Pan, this Monday (25).

The parliamentarian also questioned the independence of the 8/1 CPMI rapporteur, senator Eliziane Gama (PSD-MA), and stated that given the forecast of a report favorable to the government’s narrative, the opposition should produce a parallel report.

Next Tuesday (26), CPMI will hear the testimony of General Augusto Heleno, former minister of the Institutional Security Office (GSI) of the Bolsonaro government.

In addition to the government’s strong role in the CPMI, the senator also complained about the emptying of other commissions, as was the case with the MST’s CPI.

“It’s very bad when you have an important instrument like the CPMI and CPI, which are instruments of the minority, being hijacked by a majority. If it continues like this, it is better to extinguish it”, said Izalci, expressing concern about the “harmony” between the government and the STF.

The senator also confirmed the refusal of his party, the PSDB, to join the Lula government and commented on the uneasiness created with the party chiefs following an invitation made to senator Sergio Moro (União-PR) to join the party. .
