Want to participate in a marathon in 2023? So run! – 07/18/2023 – On the Run

The marathon is the holy grail of road racing. If you clicked on a blog called Na Corrida, you probably already know that.

Completing a marathon means much more than running the 42km of the longest Olympic distance in track and field. For many – dare I say that for the majority – the marathon is a transformative event, a milestone that transcends the race. We are talking about many weeks of preparation and deprivation, a grueling test and pain, a lot of pain.

The marathon also requires a Herculean effort for those who organize the race. Closing streets and avenues, equating the displacement flow of thousands of people and ensuring hydration and structure for all athletes for dozens of kilometers. Trust me, it’s not easy – or cheap.

Despite their reputation and importance, marathons are relatively rare on the calendar, especially when compared to shorter distances. The number of 42km races in the country during the year can be counted on one hand.

Therefore, anyone who intends to run a great marathon in 2023 needs to run. Literally and figuratively.

For those with training up to date, the option at the moment is the SP City Marathon. With a scheduled start at 5:45 am, at Praça Charles Muller, in front of the Pacaembu Stadium, and arrival at the Jockey Clube de São Paulo, the race passes through 18 neighborhoods of the city and has 21% of its route concentrated in the traditional center of the capital of São Paulo . A charm, but also synonymous with curves and bumpy streets.

To compensate for the traditional absence of fans on the streets of São Paulo, the organizers confirmed seven musical acts on the route, ranging from classical music to chorinho groups.

For those thinking of starting a training cycle, the best alternative is the Curitiba Marathon. The race, on a flat circuit and with a mild climate, passes through 20 districts of the capital of Paraná, including some of the main tourist attractions in the city, such as the Iguaçu Palace, the Botanical Garden and the Oscar Niemeyer Museum. The start takes place at Praça Nossa Senhora da Salete, in the central region of the city.
