Volkswagen confirmed this Monday (3) the arrival of the electric Kombi to the Brazilian market. Sales will begin shortly, with a first batch of 70 units, all with five seats.

Officially called ID. Buzz, the retro-style minivan – reminiscent of the first two generations of the original model – will have seats with electric adjustments, heating and massagers, digital air conditioning and 100% digital displays.

The amount refers to the automaker’s 70th anniversary in Brazil, which is being celebrated with the arrival of 100% electric cars. In addition to the futuristic Kombi, the SUV ID.4 will be launched.

The brand is also preparing the production of hybrid vehicles in Brazil, which will combine electricity, ethanol and gasoline. In seven decades of history, the manufacturer of German origin has assembled more than 25 million cars in Brazil.

“We were charged a lot, so we are going to enter the electric segment through the front door, with two models”, says Ciro Possobom, president of Volkswagen do Brasil. “The Kombi has a very strong history in the country, more than 4 million units were produced.”

ID. Buzz arrives 10 years after the end of production of the original van in Brazil. The last units left the assembly line in São Bernardo do Campo (ABC) at the end of 2013.

The new 100% electric Kombi preserves the format of the predecessor, which should win over nostalgia with high purchasing power. Prices must exceed the range of R$ 300 thousand.

The trunk holds 1,121 liters of luggage. ID. Buzz is 4.72 meters long, and the engine delivers the equivalent of 204 hp.

The model is produced in Hannover, Germany, in the same factory that made different previous generations. The queue for the model around the world can reach 18 months, and this is what makes it difficult to reach the Brazilian market in greater volume.
