Vítor Pereira devalues ​​Brazilian football: “Very impolite”

Without a club since he was fired by Flamengo in April, Vítor Pereira does not seem to be missing Brazilian football. Without being missed by the red-black club and Corinthians, the Portuguese coach stated, during his participation in the convention Thinking Football Summitin Portugal, that a European professional “must have the stomach” to work in Brazil.

“What I liked least was the lack of education. A lot of lack of education”, emphasized the Portuguese coach. “I’m not specifically pointing out A, or B, or C. But it’s a general lack of education. You need to have the stomach. It’s not about the press specifically, it’s about football itself. Everything that involves it, the whole way around football.”

Vitor Pereira did not go into details exactly what bothered him in Brazil. His passage through the country was turbulent, especially his move to Flamengo. The 55-year-old Portuguese said he would not continue in charge of Corinthians for family reasons. However, he ended up leaving Parque São Jorge for Gávea, taking over the post left by Dorival Júnior. His choice for a new club was heavily criticized, especially by black and white fans.

“Sometimes it goes beyond the limit. Emotion goes beyond the limit and they say things that we here are not prepared for. There (in Brazil), it can be normal. You can see that it is cultural there. Now, for us It’s a little difficult,” said the coach. “This week I heard Renato (Gaúcho) saying that, in fact, I, at 55 years old, am hearing” that I no longer have the patience for this”, he added.

But the Portuguese’s statements weren’t just about criticism. Vitor Pereira emphasized the importance that fans have in stadiums. For him, it is a positive point to highlight. It is worth remembering that the coach led the two most popular teams in Brazil. “Now, the emotion. Playing in front of full stadiums is chilling. This is the most beautiful thing you see in Brazil. There are many stadiums that really give you goosebumps”, he emphasized.

Vitor Pereira was fired from Flamengo after his terrible performance against Fluminense, in the second game of the Campeonato Carioca final. There were only 18 games in charge of the red-black club, with 10 wins, one draw and seven defeats in just under four months of work.
