Bernardinho is back on the Brazilian men’s volleyball team. This time, the multi-champion coach will take on the role of coordinator.
“I believe I can collaborate in the challenge of promoting greater integration between the youth and adult teams. It’s a much broader plan,” said Bernardinho, who continues as coach at Sesc Flamengo.
The adult, under-21, under-19 and under-17 teams will be under the umbrella of the new commander.
Renan Dal Zotto will continue as coach of the national team. It comes from inconsistent results, such as the defeat to Argentina in the South American Championship, in August. It was the first time that Brazil was without the title of the competition.
CBV also confirmed the agreement with Bernardinho in a statement. The entity said that the new coordinator “has the mission of planning the work of the adult and grassroots teams with a view to the 2024, 2028 and 2032 Olympic Games”.
WHAT BERNARDINHO SAID
“I accepted the invitation to coordinate the men’s national teams because I believe I can collaborate in the challenge of promoting greater integration between the youth and adult teams. It is a much broader planning, with an eye towards the future. I hope to use my experience to contribute to the formation of new generations and to work so that Brazilian volleyball maintains its standard of excellence”.
As coach of the men’s national team, Bernardinho was an Olympic champion in 2004 and 2016 and silver in 2008 and 2012. With the Brazilian women’s team, he won bronze in 1996 and 2000.
