After two months without scoring for Real Madrid, Vinicius Junior ended his drought in style. He scored three goals this Sunday (14) in his team’s victory over rival Barcelona, in the clash known as El Clásico.
Vini Jr.’s last goal was against Valencia last November. Shortly afterwards he suffered an injury and was left out of some matches for Real.
This Sunday’s match, at the Al-Awwal Park stadium, in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia), was worth the title of the Spanish Super Cup.
Vini Jr. is the third Brazilian to score three goals in El Clasico. Before him, only Evaristo de Macedo and Romário, both playing for Barcelona, had achieved this feat.
The three goals were scored by the striker in the first half: in the 7th minute, in the 10th minute and in the 38th minute, from a penalty, committed against himself.
It was the fastest trio of goals scored by a Real Madrid player in an El Clásico since 1951.
On the night of January 8, 1994, Romário scored his three goals for Barcelona in a 5-0 victory over Real Madrid.
Vini Jr’s hat-trick is the 28th in El Clásico history. 25 players have already achieved the feat. Real’s 1910s star Santiago Bernabéu, Hungarian Ferenc Puskas and Lionel Messi each have two hat-tricks.
In a single match, in 1916, the 6-6 draw in the Copa del Rey, three players, including Bernabéu, scored hat-tricks.
