The Vila Galé chain, the second largest Portuguese hotel group, presented the project of its new unit in Brazil, in the central region of Minas Gerais: the Vila Galé Collection Ouro Preto. The agreement with the public authorities, presented at a press conference, formalizes the installation of the resort in the district of Cachoeira do Campo, one of the most populous in the municipality. The project will involve an investment of R$120 million and was announced on Tuesday (28) by Jorge Rebelo de Almeida, founder and president of Vila Galé.

Located on the banks of the Rodovia dos Inconfidentes, the mining unit will be installed in the historic Dom Bosco building – the site of the old school of the same name and former headquarters of the state’s cavalry regiment –, promises to strengthen tourism in the region and has already had its construction works Restoration began in the 18th century building, listed by the State Council for Cultural Heritage.

The resort will have 297 rooms, two restaurants, two bars, seven convention rooms, an auditorium, a chapel, library, games room, spa with heated indoor pool and sauna, space dedicated to children (4 to 12 years old) with a park water, as well as a lake, ecotourism, zip lining, library and olive and grape planting. The opening is expected to take place at the end of 2024.

At the event, the president of the Vila Galé chain also announced that the recruitment process for employees at the Minas Gerais unit is open. In partnership with the Secretary of Economic Development of Ouro Preto and the Federal University of Ouro Preto (UFOP), 300 candidates will be trained in the areas of tourism and hospitality. Among them, 120 will be hired and will form part of the establishment’s staff. Of the hotel group’s 42 hotels, nine are located in historic buildings that have been restored. Next year, the number will reach 11 with the Sunset Combuco units, in Ceará, and Collection Ouro Preto, in Minas Gerais. 20 years ago in Brazil, the first Vila Galé debuted in Fortaleza, while the last unit opened in August 2022 in Alagoas.
