Video:Vandal used fire extinguisher to make way in Planalto – 04/23/2023 – Politics

The man who vandalized Dom João 6º’s clock on January 8 used fire extinguishers to clear a path through the Planalto Palace and access the upper floors. New images from the camera circuit show the scammer on the ground floor at 3:22 pm circulating near the GSI (Institutional Security Office) room.

At 3:24 pm, he reappears in the recording with a fire extinguisher and climbs just a few steps on the stairs that give access to the palace’s function rooms. After activating the extinguisher, he steps back, demonstrates discomfort with the smoke and calls other protesters to come up.

From the security cameras on the next floor —identified by the GSI as the second floor—it is possible to see that the man later throws the two fire extinguishers down the stairs as if they were grenades. He then observes the place, finds that there is no one and accesses the pavement at 3:25 pm.

Before going up to the third floor of the Planalto Palace, where the centenary clock of Dom João 6º was, the vandal also takes what appears to be the pole of a flag to destroy an ATM on the second floor.

Shortly afterwards, he appears next to a person who was filming the episode and gestures aggressively looking at the cell phone camera. At 3:33 pm, he throws the clock to the floor, pushes over a table and chair, and grabs fire extinguishers to try to break the security camera, to no avail.

Identified as Antonio Claudio Alves Ferreira, 30, he was arrested by the PF (Federal Police) on January 23 in the city of Uberlândia (MG). His house, in Catalão (GO), was searched and seized the following day. On January 8, he wore a T-shirt with the face of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL).

The only example of the piece in the world, the watch was given as a gift to Dom João 6th by the French court. The work was designed by André-Charles Boulle and manufactured by French watchmaker Balthazar Martinot at the end of the 18th century, a few years before being brought to Brazil.

The Swiss government has offered to help the federal government restore the piece. According to a preliminary report by Iphan, the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute, released in January, the clock was “fragmented throughout its length, showing cracks, deformations and losses”.

The images of the internal circuit of the Planalto Palace were made available by the GSI after order of Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF (Federal Supreme Court). Until then, the federal government had released only edited excerpts from the day — such as the destruction of Dom João 6th’s clock.

The antechamber of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s (PT) office was broken into by coup plotters at 3:56 pm, after a man kicked the glass door. The recording also suggests that he was aware that his action would be recorded by someone else – in this case, a photojournalist from the Reuters news agency.

The images of the presidential antechamber were the trigger for the crisis that culminated in the fall of the then minister of the GSI (Institutional Security Office), Gonçalves Dias. Known as GDias, he testified this Saturday (22) and said that the Justice will point out that he has “no responsibility”.
