Video: Roberto Jefferson says he laughed at an injured police officer – 05/30/2023 – Politics

The Federal Justice released this Tuesday (30) a video of the interrogation of former deputy Roberto Jefferson in the process in which he is accused of attempted murder against four federal police officers who went to carry out an arrest order issued by Minister Alexandre de Moraes, of the STF ( Federal Supreme Court), last October.

During interrogation, last Friday (26), the ally of former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said he laughed when he saw police officer Karina Lino running away after he threw a first light and sound grenade adulterated with nails.

“They took shelter. The last one to run was the girl. I even laughed. She’s just like my granddaughter. Little hair stuck…”, said the former deputy.

Karina was injured in the leg by shrapnel from a projectile fired by the ex-deputy’s carbine. Before, the projectile hit the pistol that was in the holster glued to the body of the agent.

The Federal Public Ministry claims that the weapon saved the police officer from being hit directly by the 5.56mm projectile, which would cause a more serious injury. An expert hired by the former congressman’s defense says that the marks on the gun indicate that it would not have been hit if it had not been holstered.

In addition to Karina, federal delegate Marcelo Villela was also injured by shrapnel of some metallic material in the head. Judge Abby Magalhães, from the 1st Federal Court of Três Rios, imposed secrecy on the video of the victims’ testimonies. They stated that they were surprised by the shots fired by Jefferson and that the former deputy fired with the intention of killing.

Throughout the testimony, Jefferson sought to convince the judge that he had no intention of killing the agents. He fired 60 carbine shots and threw three light and sound grenades (at least one of which was altered with nails).

“I shot the car”, he repeated throughout the 1 hour and 24 minutes of his testimony.

The Prosecutor’s Office and the defense will request new steps. Then, Judge Abby Magalhães, from the 1st Federal Court of Três Rios, will decide whether the case will be judged by a popular jury. Jefferson’s defense intends to change the charge of attempted murder to bodily harm, which would take the case out of the Grand Jury.

“The evidence of the prosecution did not demonstrate either intent or attempted murder. It demonstrated that he was in a state that could no longer tolerate so much illegality. At no time did he intend to take the lives of the police officers”, said lawyer João Pedro Barreto.

Jefferson was arrested on October 23 by order of the minister on the grounds of repeatedly failing to comply with previously imposed house arrest rules.

A day earlier, he had used his daughter’s Twitter account, former deputy Cristiane Brasil (PTB), to curse STF minister Cármen Lúcia. The magistrate was called “Blair Witch” and “Carmen Lucifer”, among other insults.

The former deputy had been under house arrest since January 2022 for health reasons. On the occasion, Moraes relaxed the preventive detention decreed in August 2021 as part of the investigation of the digital militias linked to then-President Bolsonaro.
