Vice-President and Corregidor vie for TJ-SP presidency – 03/20/2023 – Frederico Vasconcelos

The vice president of the Court of Justice of São Paulo, Guilherme Strenger, and the general inspector, Fernando Torres Garcia, sent messages to fellow judges announcing that they are candidates to succeed President Ricardo Mair Anafe.

Elections will be held on November 8.

The texts are formal. Strenger promises magistrates “better working conditions, as well as dignified and more adequate remuneration”. Torres Garcia, who distributed the message afterwards, informs his friends of the intention, hopes for the support of his colleagues and makes himself available to receive suggestions.

On January 7, 2022, when he took office as president, Anafe announced on the Electronic Justice Gazette message addressed to judges, civil servants and citizens, remembering the crisis arising from the Covid 19 pandemic:

“My belief in the solidity of the Bandeirante Judiciary and in the integrity of its members, and my commitment to perpetuating its historical greatness bring me the firm conviction that times of crisis, such as the present, are the most fortunate to promote innovations, not least because complexity must to be faced and not contemplated“.

The candidacies of Strenger and Torres Garcia, members of the current TJ-SP leadership, were predictable, as they are considered natural candidates. The articulations begin in the second year of management.

As one magistrate says, “although they don’t say they are oppositional, it cannot be said that they are situational”.

Dear and dear colleagues,

It is with great honor that I announce my candidacy for the Presidency of the Court of Justice.

After more than 42 years dedicated to the judiciary and the administration of the Judiciary, I feel motivated to lead our institution.

I have a firm commitment to the ethics, transparency and independence of the Judiciary, assuming the obligation to guarantee judges better working conditions, as well as dignified and more adequate remuneration.

Count on my word, hoping to receive suggestions that can be directed to my e-mail.

My dear friend, good morning.

I hope all is well with you and your family.

I preferred to “talk” around here, instead of bothering him by phone on a big Sunday.

I believe you already know, but I want to reaffirm, after being informed by the eminent President and Vice-President of the Court, that I will be a candidate for the Presidency of our Court of Justice in the election of next November 8th.

I will campaign further ahead, in the intervals of the countless tasks that I have in front of the Internal Affairs General of Justice, which I value so much and I have been striving to fulfill the height of the high trust that was placed in me by my colleagues.

Guilherme Gonçalves Strenger was born in 1950, in São Paulo. Graduated in Law from USP (1974). He holds a master’s degree in Civil Law (1990). He joined the Judiciary in 1981, as a substitute judge in Presidente Prudente. He worked in Limeira, Regente Feijó, Mairiporã, Osasco and São Paulo. He was elected judge of TRE-SP. In 2002 he was promoted to the Criminal Court. He took over as judge in 2005; Elected member of the Special Body in 2010. He was President of the Criminal Law Section (2020/2021).

Fernando Antonio Torres Garcia was born in 1959, in the city of São Paulo. Graduated from the Faculty of Law of USP (1982). He began his career in the Judiciary in 1983, as a substitute judge in Osasco. He was a holder in the districts of Mirandópolis, Indaiatuba, Diadema and São Paulo, in the Regional Forum of Lapa. Promoted to the position of judge in 2008. He was counselor of the Escola Paulista da Magistratura (2016/2017 and 2020/2021) and president of the Criminal Law Section (2018/2019).
