Vasco is passed over by Andrey, who prioritizes Libertadores dispute

Without a work visa in England, midfielder Andrey Santos, sold by Vasco to Chelsea, prioritizes transferring to a Brazilian team that is in the Libertadores dispute to the detriment of spending another season in São Januário.

The Colina club signaled an interest in continuing with the player if he did not get permission to defend the Blues — in English football, foreign players need to meet certain requirements to be registered by local clubs, a way to protect the market for players born in the country.

As expected, Andrey was denied a visa – the fact that he never played in Brazil’s top flight weighed negatively – and the tendency is for him to return to Brazilian football. However, the focus of the player is the Libertadores dispute.

Palmeiras is the favorite to sign the player, champion for Brazil and main player of the South American sub-20.

Initially, a short contract was considered, lasting only until the middle of the year, but the defensive midfielder’s schedule in the first half is full of commitments with the youth team. The team will have a week of training in April and will be concentrated, due to the Under-20 World Cup, for up to 30 days, between the presentation of the players and a possible trip to the final.

Because of this, it only made sense for Brazilian clubs to count on the player for at least the entire season.

Regardless, the problem of lack of a visa will be solved after the player participates in the U-20 World Cup – the competition will add up the points that speak for the work permit to be issued.

Sale comes out for less than half of the first fine as a professional

Andrey arrived at Vasco when he was just six years old and spent the entire training process in the youth teams of Maltese cross.

From youth, he became one of Vasco’s main promises. So much so that in 2020, aged 16, she signed her first professional contract. The stipulated termination fine was in the amount of 30 million euros.

In 2021, he was integrated into the professionals and in the following year, he took off in the starting lineup, being the main name of the team in the campaign that culminated with the fourth place in Série B.

In September of last year, valued and with the contract ending in June 2023, he signed a new contract with Cruz-Maltino, much longer, until 2027. However, three months later he was sold to Chelsea. The value of the transfer was less than half of the fine established in the previous contract: 12.5 million euros.
