Valdeci highlights actions against hunger in management balance sheet

About to leave the presidency of the Legislative Assembly of Rio Grande do Sul, state deputy Valdeci Oliveira (PT) highlighted the actions of Rio Grande Contra a Fome during the balance of his management at the head of the Gaucho Parliament. Treated as the “flagship” of his presidency, it is a transversal program that aims to expand the fight against food and nutrition insecurity in the State and involves the Three Powers.

According to figures presented by Valdeci, during the first year of the program in 2022, more than 230 tons of food were collected and R$ 40 million were donated by the Legislative Assembly and Judiciary for the purchase of 142 thousand basic food baskets.

“The flagship was the Rio Grande Against Hunger. I often get emotional because I know what it’s like to starve. I know how much a person who doesn’t have anything to eat, who doesn’t have bread to give their child, how necessary these actions are. We perceive a striking contradiction. We have a State that is one of the largest grain producers in this country, which produces so much, we have more than 1 million people who are permanently food insecure – and the vast majority of them are seriously insecure. This is the harsh reality”, said the deputy.

The management review was one of Valdeci’s last acts as President of Parliament. This Tuesday (31), during the inauguration of state deputies elected in 2022 for the 56th legislature, the PT transfers the position to deputy Vilmar Zanchin (MDB), who will lead the House this year – when actions in the program should have continuity.

“The program was built with all the Powers. When I was governor for a little over two days, we signed the program’s permanence for another 12 months. He continues. There is a commitment from the future president to give full support. I hope that one day it won’t be, but as long as it’s needed, I believe it’s a program that’s here to stay,” said Valdeci.

During the balance sheet presented by the Parliamentarian, the Federation of Associations of Municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul (Famurs) was one more institution to join in the fight against hunger in the State. The entity’s president, Paulinho Salerno (MDB), signed the adhesion to the movement this Monday morning (30).

“A program so important for the State that there will be a segment next year. We, at the far end, collapsed the day to day that each of the municipal administrations do to meet the citizen’s demands in the search for food. We couldn’t help but make this adhesion representing the 497 municipalities in Rio Grande do Sul”, said the mayor of Restinga Seca.

With the departure of the presidency of the House, Valdeci will return to his political and legislative activities as a state deputy. One of the most immediate issues that he will return to the agenda with the PT bench is the privatization of Corsan.

“On the issue of Corsan itself, we still haven’t lost hope, as well as the preservation of our public companies and the provision of a good quality service, mainly in health, education and culture”, he declared at a press conference.

Asked by Jornal do Comércio if Valdeci would join the campaign of other opposition deputies to the Eduardo Leite government (PSDB) for a new agreement for the Fiscal Recovery Regime (RRF), the President of Parliament said he believed it was possible to reopen negotiations.

“I think that any negotiation is possible to help Rio Grande. In our assessment, the RRF was a fairly quick process, without ample debate. I think the RS ends up being harmed. If there is the possibility, and it seems that there is, to dialogue with the federal government in a frank, democratic, transparent way, producing something that can reduce the impact of the RRF here, I think it is very important. We will work to open that dialogue,” he said.
