USP holds seminars on democracy and digital platforms – 03/30/2023 – Politics

This Friday (31), the USP Faculty of Law promotes a series of debates to discuss democracy and digital platforms. The seminar, which will take place in the Rubino de Oliveira auditorium from 9:00 am to 7:30 pm, will also be broadcast on the faculty’s YouTube channel.
The seminar will be divided into five panels.
At the opening, freedom of expression, limits and alternatives in post-truth times will be discussed. Participating in the table are Celso Fernandes Campilongo and Ana Elisa Liberatore Bechara, directors of the Faculty of Law of USP; Eugênio Bucci, professor at ECA-USP; and Minister Alexandre de Moraes, President of the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) and Minister of the STF (Federal Supreme Court).
“Faculty representatives have made efforts and promoted actions to combat disinformation, such as the reading of the Letter to Brazilians and Brazilians and the Act in Repudiation of the attacks of January 8 against the buildings of the Three Powers”, says a note from the faculty. .
Starting at 11am, there will be a table on “Fake news, news and counter-fakes”, which will feature the journalist from Sheet Patrícia Campos Mello, fellow journalist Pedro Doria, Estela Aranha, special advisor to the office of the Minister of Justice and Public Security, and Pablo Ortellado, professor at EACH-USP.
“Content Moderation: regulation, deregulation or self-regulation of networks” will be the topic of the panel at 2 pm. The table will be composed by Floriano de Azevedo Marques Neto, professor and former director of the Faculty of Law; Ricardo Campos, from the Legal Grounds Institute; Laura Schertel Mendes, from the IDP (Brazilian Institute of Public Law); and Mônica Steffen Guise, from Meta.
The fourth panel will discuss “Direction, content remuneration and private messaging”, at 4 pm, with the participation of Juliano Maranhão, professor at FD-USP; Alanna Rizzo of YouTube; Fernando Gallo, from TikTok; and Dario Durigan, from WhatsApp.
Finally, at 6 pm, there will be a panel “The role of networks: democratic or anti-democratic space”, which will be composed by professors Floriano Marques and Maria Paula Dallari Bucci; Alexandre Freire, from Anatel, and by Deputy Orlando Silva (PC do B-SP), who is the rapporteur for bill 2630, which provides for internet regulation.
