PT member who will head Sebrae speaks of the end of authoritarianism – 03/30/2023 – Panel

Former federal deputy and former candidate for the government of Santa Catarina, Décio Lima (PT) should assume the presidency of Sebrae Nacional after the election of the entity’s board on April 10. This Wednesday (29), after pressure from the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government, Carlos Melles delivered his letter of resignation as head of the institution.

Paulo Okamotto, representative of the federal government in the negotiations for the departure of the Sebrae board, told the Panel in February that he saw in Melles a Bolsonarist who, if he had had common sense, would not have even sought re-election for the command of the entity at the end of 2022.

After difficulties in the negotiations, Okamotto accepted the continuity of the directors Margarete Barreto (ally of the mayor, Arthur Lira, of the PP-AL) and Bruno Quick (also described by him as a Bolsonarist). With that, he got support to remove Melles, who left office before the vote scheduled for Thursday (30).

Asked about what he will do differently in relation to Melles’ administration, Lima says he intends to “do things horizontally, with democratic debate”.

“The representativeness of the councilors is the natural flow of construction of what needs to be changed, maintained and what needs to be achieved in the near future. Let’s do something with total agglutination, without using absurdities of what has no more space today in the life of humanity, which is authoritarianism, are despicable values, which do not build anything”, says the former mayor of Blumenau (SC).

Lima says that Sebrae cannot belong to a party, much less an opposition party.

“Sebrae was born to be a partner of the small, of the economy that is strategic to induce economic development, a partner of all, who today are concerned with the agenda of diffuse interests of Brazilians”, he says.

“I want to have a diagnosis, transparency, and we’re not going to stay in the sameness and conventionality. I’m not stuck with what’s old, old. I’m going to also have changes, which are the ones the world is experiencing. horizontal, but I’m not going to stop having a brave and revolutionary heart to make changes and make the segment have a safe path of progress”, he completes.

Lima says that Paulo Okamotto, who was president of Sebrae between 2003 and 2010, will be his permanent direct consultant throughout his term, if he is in fact elected. As for the scarcity of resources, which should be a difficulty for him to manage, unlike what happened with Okamotto, he says he doesn’t like pessimism.

“I’m optimistic, I think the economy will react. Brazil will return to the agenda of Lula’s first two terms, the world will stop with the conflicts that are affecting the economy. I don’t take away two values ​​in life: real optimism, true, and another that I learned from the philosopher [Baruch] Spinoza, the passion. I’m going there with a lot of passion,” he concludes.

Okamotto tells the column that he will help with advice and indications, but he will not be linked to Sebrae and will continue as president of the Perseu Abramo Foundation, a study center linked to the PT.

A critic of Melles’ management, he says that the most urgent issue for Sebrae at the beginning of his term is the low supply of credit in the country for micro and small companies.

“We need to create jobs to keep the country going. That’s what Sebrae exists for. We are going to build public policies, dialogue with the government, with the banks. We have to ask the Central Bank what it is thinking about the micro and small default company, which is a big problem today”, concludes Okamotto.
