Use of Brazilian refineries reaches 95% with peaks of 99% in May, says Petrobras

Petrobras reported this week that the refineries of the state-owned company reached the mark of 95% of processing in the month of May, the highest monthly result registered since July 2015. The so-called Total Utilization Factor (FUT) reached 99% in a few days of the second fortnight.

According to the company, the May performance was recorded even with scheduled maintenance stoppages at RPBC (Cubatão, SP), Refap (Canoas, RS), Reduc (Duque de Caxias, RJ) and Replan (Paulínia, SP).

The oil refining FUT considers the volume of cargo effectively processed and the refineries’ reference load, that is, the operational capacity respecting the equipment design limits, safety requirements, environment and quality of the derivatives produced, in addition to rationality economics of production decisions.

The state-owned company also said that it has already invested BRL 1.1 billion in the modernization of equipment and projects at the RPBC and Refap refineries, in addition to having signed contracts for the expansion and modernization of the Abreu e Lima (PE) and Riograndense (RS) refineries. ).

“We are working to further improve our derivatives, modernize the refineries and reduce the environmental impact of operations, with maximum safety”, said William França, director of industrial processes and products at Petrobras.

The director also explained that part of the investments is aimed at advancing in the decarbonization of processes.
