University of NY offers a master’s scholarship in journalism – 01/08/2024 – Novo em Folha

New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Institute of Journalism is selecting journalists for the Global Journalist Fellowship program, which offers a US$16,000 scholarship and two semesters of study in one of nine programs master’s degree from the institute.

The initiative is aimed at journalists fluent in English and another language, who work outside the United States. Registration can be made until January 15th.

Works provided to news or independent organizations, published in any medium, will be considered. Corporate communications, public relations and student publications do not qualify.

According to the institution, the judges will look for journalists with a passion for journalism who will make the most of the opportunity. For this reason, work experience is not the only criterion.

Candidates must have an undergraduate degree lasting at least four years or proof of training in three years plus one year of postgraduate studies. It is also a prerequisite to have a passport at the time of registration.

New York University courses last an average of three semesters. To participate, the candidate must complete applications for both the scholarship and admission to the master’s program in journalism, and take an English proficiency test.

Toefl or Ielts will be accepted, without the need to take the GRE exam. The student may be exempted if the language of their undergraduate course was English.

According to the university’s website, interested parties who have not taken the test by January 15th can send proof of scheduling the test and take it as quickly as possible.

The following programs are available: Business and Economic Journalism, Cultural Reporting and Criticism, Global and Joint Program Studies, Literary Reporting, Magazine and Digital Storytelling, News and Documentaries, Podcast and Audio Reporting, Reporting the Nation and New York in Multimedia , Scientific, Health and Environmental Reporting and Studio 20: Digital First, focused on innovation.

In addition to the scholarship, the Journalism Institute can offer additional assistance to students accepted for the program. Applicants for the Global Journalist Fellowship will be considered for other scholarships along with all accepted applicants.

The final result will be announced around June 20, in late spring, after the finalist has been admitted to graduate school.
