Union centers and popular movements will hold, between June 16th and July 2nd, a national day of demonstrations for the drop in interest rates and for the departure of Roberto Campos Neto from the presidency of the Central Bank.
The Copom (Monetary Policy Committee) will hold its next meeting on June 20th and 21st to decide whether the basic interest rate increases, decreases or remains stable.
Like President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), these movements criticize the 13.75% interest rate, which they consider an obstacle to investment policies in the country. The Central Bank argues that the Selic has been maintained at this level to contain inflation.
On June 16, the movements will hold assemblies, leafleting, tweets and acts in several cities, in addition to a march in São Bernardo do Campo (SP).
On the 20th, events will be held in all states where the Central Bank has headquarters. In São Paulo, the protest will take place on Avenida Paulista.
On June 22, the centrals intend to personally deliver to the President of the Senate, Rodrigo Pacheco (PSD-MG), a request for the dismissal of Campos Neto.
