The union centrals that organize the 1st of May act that will take place in Vale do Anhangabaú, in the center of São Paulo, claim that the concessionaire that manages the space is trying to prohibit them from taking balloons that are characteristic of this type of event.

The City of São Paulo and the Viva o Vale consortium signed a concession contract for the site in 2021, with an expected duration of ten years.

The balloons that the centrals intend to take are the so-called “blimps”, generally round and that are above the agglomerations and carry the logos of the centrals. They stand out in aerial photos taken of the 1st of May acts and demonstrations at the centrals.

According to the trade unionists, the argument presented to them by a representative of Viva o Vale was that the display of their brands on the balloons would constitute an infringement of the Clean City law.

In a note, the concessionaire tells the Panel that it made itself available to the operational team to understand the feasibility of installing the balloons on site without violating the Clean City law and damaging the structure and security of the site.

“Until now, we have not been approached to carry out a technical visit that would define whether or not viability within the parameters of the law”, he says.

The trade union centrals have been trying to articulate a solution to the impasse with mayor Ricardo Nunes (MDB).

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) has already confirmed his presence at the event, which will feature presentations by Dexter, Leci Brandão (state deputy for the PCdoB), Zé Geraldo and Samanta Schmütz.

In 2023, the event will be unified, that is, it will bring together the main centrals, such as CUT, Força Sindical, UGT, CSB, CTB, among others.
