Federal deputy Luiz Carlos Motta (PL), who presides over Fecomerciários, has been questioned for having voted against the bill on the taxation of so-called exclusive funds, used by the super-rich, and offshores (companies based outside the country) .
Fecomerciários (Federation of Trade Workers of the State of São Paulo) is the main trade union entity in São Paulo. In a statement, the deputy and trade unionist stated that he acted in accordance with his party’s guidance.
“His decision reflects not only cohesion with party guidelines, but also an approach based on the conviction that individual production is more crucial than the simple consideration of gains”, says a note sent to the Panel by Motta’s advisor.
When running for office last year, the deputy declared to the TSE (Superior Electoral Court) that he had R$752,000 in investments, investments and savings accounts.
The proposal had 323 votes in favor and 119 against. PL and Novo and PL were the only acronyms that guided unfavorably. The text, approved in the Chamber on Wednesday (25), goes to the Senate for analysis.
Exclusive funds are used by the super-rich to invest millions of reais in shares or fixed income while paying less Income Tax. They will pay the 15% rate on income to be paid in the months of May and November of each year.
