A video posted on Unicamp’s DCE Instagram account shows a university professor trying to attack a student with a knife this Tuesday (3), on the Barão de Geraldo (SP) campus. In the images, building security guards break up the fight between teacher and student.
In another video published by the same account, it is possible to see the teacher being detained by the São Paulo Military Police to the sound of shouts “fascists, racists will not pass”.
According to the DCE students’ version, one of them had approached the teacher to inform him about the students’ strike when he began to be attacked. Also according to them, in addition to the knife, the teacher carried pepper spray. There is still no information from official sources about what happened.
The Unicamp Rectory expressed its opinion in a note, but without many details about the case. The management repudiated the acts of violence and informed that the teacher’s conduct, “in addition to the police investigation launched, will be investigated through appropriate administrative procedures and the appropriate measures will be taken”.
Among the reasons for the strike that began this Monday (2), are improvements to the university’s infrastructure, increased hiring of professors and the adoption of a trans quota. On social media, students are also asking for donations to pay for the strike.
