The unemployment rate fell for the ninth consecutive time and reached an average of 8.1% between September and November 2022, the IBGE reported this Thursday (19). The index, calculated by the Pnad Contínua survey, is the lowest for this period of the year since 2014 (6.6%). Considering all moving quarters, this is the lowest percentage since April 2015 (8.1%).

In the immediately preceding moving quarter (August-September-October), unemployment was 8.3%, according to the IBGE. In one year, the rate fell by more than three percentage points – the index calculated in November 2021 was 11.6%.

Still according to PNAD, the employed population rose again and reached 99.7 million people in the quarter ended in November, around 4.8 million more than in the same period of 2021. The most recent number is the highest in the series historical research, started in 2012.

Meanwhile, the number of unemployed fell to 8.7 million people, 3.7 million less than a year earlier and also the lowest number since June 2015.
