Unb student arrested after threatening messages – 04/12/2023 – Daily life

A student at UnB (University of Brasilia) was arrested this Wednesday (12) after being identified by the Civil Police as the author of threatening messages made inside the institution’s campus.

The messages were found on Tuesday (11) in one of the bathrooms at the FAC (Faculty of Communication) and at a bus stop at the Central Institute of North Sciences. The rectory said security camera footage was used to help with identification.

The author of the threats is a student at the Faculty of Communication. One of the texts read “Day 12. Masacre [sic] at FAC”. The message also contained a drawing of a swastika, a symbol of Nazism.

A Sheet contacted the Civil Police and the Secretariat of Public Security of the Federal District for more details but did not receive a response so far.

According to Unb, the student will respond to an internal disciplinary process. The administration is considering suspending it on a preliminary basis while the case is investigated.

The university also said it will investigate whether other people participated. This Wednesday’s classes were maintained and took place normally in the morning period.

“A reinforced security scheme was established”, says a note from the UnB.

Earlier this month, a man entered a private school in Blumenau (SC) and killed four children. The case occurred nine days after the attack on the Thomazia Montoro state school, in São Paulo, when a 13-year-old student stabbed a teacher to death and injured five other people, including three teachers.

Supposed threats of attacks have changed the routine of schools across the country. Despite most messages being false, parents, students and teachers report fear; specialists recommend reporting cases to the authorities.

The PUC (Pontifical Catholic University) of São Paulo, for example, had a high number of students who missed classes this Wednesday due to rumors on social networks that claimed that the location would be the target of criminal attacks.

The Minister of Education, Camilo Santana, said this Wednesday that the recent attacks on schools are a reflection of the stimulus to hatred, violence and weapons present in society. He defended discussing what measures can be taken, but he was against the idea of ​​putting armed police in schools.
