Ukrainians living in Portugal will deliver a letter of “indignation” to Lula

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) should receive, on the 25th, a letter signed by the Association of Ukrainians in Portugal in which he demonstrates indignation over the declarations that the Russian invasion of the country would be a shared responsibility.

This statement was given by the entity’s representative, Pavlo Sadokha, this Monday (17) to the Lusa news agency. According to him, there is still the possibility of a demonstration against Lula during his official visit to the country, scheduled for April 21 to 25.

“We do not agree with what Lula said. We hope that President Marcelo [Rebelo de Sousa] and the Prime Minister, Antônio Costa, try to change this position,” Sadokha told the agency.

The statement of protest comes days after Lula said that the United States and the European Union are responsible for “encouraging war”, and that they should start “talking about peace”. The statement did not resonate well among nations and led to criticism from US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby.

According to him, Lula’s speech was “deeply problematic” and that Brazil “is repeating Russian and Chinese propaganda without looking at the facts”.

Support for totalitarian regimes

For Pavlo Sadokha, Lula’s statement demonstrates clear “support” for totalitarian regimes, such as Russia and China, and says that Portuguese politicians have helped Ukraine in the conflict and that they can explain to the Brazilian president what is really happening in the territory. Ukrainian.

“We hope that this will happen,” said Sadokha, adding that Lula’s declaration that Ukraine could cede Crimea or other territories “at the expense of peace is not a solution either for Ukrainians or for European countries. Russia did not start this war to occupy some territories,” he added.

The president of the association also stated that Ukrainians in Portugal expected “more support” from Brazil, where there is “a huge community” of Ukrainian citizens.
