The Ministry of Justice and Public Security confirmed that Twitter would have started removing content and blocking suspicious profiles, listed by the folder’s task force, that mention terrorists, present images of attacked schools or praise the perpetrators of acts of violence. The action would be a response to the ordinance, published this Wednesday (12), which regulates and imposes punishments on the action or omission of social networking platforms in relation to the transmission of violent content.

Twitter’s initial stance, according to the Ministry, was one of resistance to removals without moderation, considering that this attitude could give rise to injustices and violations of freedom of expression. The company would have reconsidered after meeting with the folder.

To the newspaper O Globo, the special advisor to Minister Flávio Dino and future Secretary of Digital Rights of the Ministry of Justice, lawyer Estela Aranha, informed, this Thursday (13), that the platform would have already removed hundreds of data.

In all, the Ministry reported 1,000 profiles to social networks. Platforms that refuse to ban users with criminal content will be subject to a fine, established based on the Consumer Defense Code and the Child and Adolescent Statute, in the amount of R$ 12 million. In a press conference to explain the ordinance, Minister Flavio Dino also said that social networks that do not collaborate in combating these groups that coordinate attacks on schools may have their operations suspended in Brazil.
