Pressured by growing criticism from educators and students, the Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) government must suspend the implementation of the new secondary education. An ordinance should be published in the next few days with the alteration of the schedule for the changes.

The text will also halt the reform of the Enem (National High School Examination) scheduled for 2024, which would adapt the exam to the new format of the final stage of basic education. Enem is the main gateway to public higher education in the country.

The MEC (Ministry of Education) intends to use the WhatsApp chat application to listen to students about the new high school, which has been the target of criticism and pressure for its repeal. The federal government’s initial plan is to speak to 100,000 young people.
