TV Folha: Is it worth buying a popular car? – 05/29/2023 – Folha TV

The government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) released this Thursday (25) a plan that seeks to reduce the price of new popular cars. Vice-president Geraldo Alckmin (PSB) announced that the main measure will be the reduction of taxes for vehicles of up to R$ 120 thousand, with the reduction of the IPI and PIS/Cofins.

To explain what is behind the decision, presenter Isabella Faria talks live, at 6 pm, with reporter Eduardo Sodré, this Monday (29).

Reductions in final vehicle prices will range from 1.5% to 10.96% —discounts will be greater for cheaper cars. In addition to price, two other factors will be taken into account to determine the size of the discount: energy efficiency and national production.

According to the vice president, the cheapest cars can be sold for less than R$ 60,000 because, in addition to tax reductions, there is the possibility of direct sales by the industry, which would represent an “important ex-tariff discount”. The federal government claims that the reduction in prices can reach 33 models, from 11 brands.
