Pelé became an entry in the Michaelis dictionary, one of the most important in the Portuguese language. The football king was inserted as an adjective in the digital version of the work and will be included in the next ones that are printed.
“Who or who is out of the ordinary, who or who by virtue of their quality, value or superiority cannot be equaled to anything or anyone, just like Pelé, nickname of Edson Arantes do Nascimento (1940-2022), considered the greatest athlete of all time; exceptional, incomparable, unique. He is the pelé of basketball. She is the pelé of tennis. She is the pelé of Brazilian dramaturgy”, says the text of the entry.
To explain how words get into dictionaries, presenter Isabella Faria talks live, at 6 pm, with teacher Thaís Nicoleti, this Thursday (11).
The Pelé Foundation, which manages the legacy of the Brazilian athlete of the century in 1981, had started a campaign for him to become an entry in dictionaries. A petition gathered around 125,000 signatures.
