TSE upholds decision that fined Bolsonaro for September 7

Individual fine is in the amount of R$ 50 thousand
Minister Benedito Gonçalves, of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), decided, this Tuesday (15), to maintain the decision that fined former president Jair Bolsonaro and former minister Walter Braga Netto in R$ 110 thousand for non-compliance with decision and litigation in bad faith.
In July, the minister understood that the Bolsonaro-Braga Netto campaign failed to remove from social media images of the September 7 celebrations that had been considered irregular electoral propaganda in last year’s election.
According to the decision, both received individual fines of BRL 50,000 for non-compliance, in addition to an addition of BRL 5,000 for ensuring that the contents were erased.
The minister’s decision was motivated by an appeal filed by the defenses of Bolsonaro and Braga Netto. The lawyers maintained that there was no non-compliance with the decision and defended the combination of several actions on the same accusation against the campaign. “There is no legitimate reason to speed up the judgment of one or another action to the detriment of the others”argued the defense.
