The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) rejected this Tuesday (12) the impeachment of the governor of Santa Catarina, Jorginho Mello (PL), and vice-governor Marilisa Boehm (PL). The ministers decided, unanimously, to maintain the determination of the Regional Electoral Court of Santa Catarina (TRE-SC) that dismissed the Electoral Judicial Investigation Action (Aije) against the ticket.

The election of the ticket was questioned by lawyer Rosane Magaly Martins, who ran for a position as state deputy for Psol. In the action, the lawyer requested the ineligibility and revocation of the politicians’ registrations or diplomas due to alleged abuse of economic power and illicit expenditure of resources destined for female candidates, the TSE said in a note.

The TSE ministers followed the vote of the rapporteur, minister Floriano de Azevedo Marques. For the rapporteur, given the regularity in the allocation of public resources for the benefit of female campaigns to a campaign whose ticket contains a candidate for vice-president and given the lack of robust proof of the alleged fraudulent inclusion of the candidate on the majority ticket, “consequently, there is no room for recognize the alleged prohibited conduct and abuse of economic power that tarnish the normality and legitimacy of the elections”.
