TSE makes Luciano Hang, from Havan, ineligible and impeaches mayor of Brusque (SC) – 05/04/2023 – Power

The TSE (Superior Electoral Court) decided this Thursday (4th) to revoke the mandates of the mayor of Brusque (SC), Ari Vequi (MDB), and the deputy mayor Gilmar Doerner (Republicans), in addition to declaring businessman Luciano Hang ineligible for abuse of economic power in the 2020 municipal elections.

The collegiate understood that Luciano Hang ostensibly campaigned in favor of Vequi’s election, mobilizing his company, the Havan store chain, to favor the candidate to the detriment of his opponents.

During the government of then President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) Hang was one of the businessmen closest to the Chief Executive. In 2020, he became the target of blocking assets and search and seizure in investigations by the STF (Federal Supreme Court) in an investigation that investigated attacks on court ministers.

In the lawsuit filed by the slate formed by Podemos, PT, PSB and PV, the allegation is that the structure, assets, employees, suppliers, as well as marketing actions and the brand itself were used to favor the winning slate.

In the resumption of the trial this Thursday, the president of the TSE, Alexandre de Moraes, opened a divergence in relation to the rapporteur of the action and now retired minister, Ricardo Lewandowski, and voted to condemn those involved.

According to Moraes, there was a “true parallel campaign” to harm opposing campaigns, which leads to a distortion of the fairness of the elections.

“If we authorize companies that establish during the parallel advertising campaign without any limit, we will be placiting the abuse of economic power”, he affirmed.

Moraes was followed by ministers Benedito Gonçalves, Cármen Lúcia, Sergio Banhos and Carlos Horbach. Lewandowski and Raul Araújo were defeated.

The TSE reported that a new election should be held to elect new mayors and vice mayors of the Santa Catarina municipality.
