The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) formed a majority this Thursday (14) to revoke the mandate of state deputy Fred Rodrigues (DC). Five of the seven ministers of the electoral court followed the vote of the case’s rapporteur, Carmém Lúcia, in favor of the revocation, such as Alexandre de Moraes, Kassio Nunes Marques, André Ramos Tavares and Raul Araújo Filho. Only the votes of the ministers remain: Maria Isabel Diniz Gallotti and Floriano Peixoto. The session should last until midnight this Friday (15).

As soon as voting is closed, the TSE will communicate the decision to the Regional Electoral Court of Goiás (TRE-GO), which must re-total the votes. Afterwards, a communication will be made to the Legislative Assembly of Goiás (Alego) about Fred’s replacement, which, in the case in question, must be Cristóvão Tormin. However, the decision may still be appealed. If the state deputy files the appeal, the so-called “embargo for clarification”, it does not have a suspensive effect.

The impeached deputy was one of those responsible for holding an extraordinary solemn session at Alego, on August 18, to grant the Honorary Title of Citizenship of Goiana to the former president of Brazil, Jair Messias Bolsonaro.

The action for the rejection of Fred’s candidacy was presented by the Regional Electoral Attorney’s Office of Goiás, referring to the failure to provide accounts for the 2020 election, when he ran for the Chamber of Goiânia. The same accounts were presented the following year, in 2021, after the deadline. Therefore, it was considered as not being provided. The parliamentarian managed to reverse the rejection with TRE-GO, but the TSE now formed a majority for the definitive loss of the mandate.

Fred Rodrigues is the author of the project that aims to prohibit pubertal blockade and cross-hormone therapy, in children or adolescents under 18, for gender transition, which was approved this Friday (15), in the Assembly. The proposal goes to Governor Ronaldo Caiado for sanction.

In an interview with BR Political Factoron Friday night (15), the state deputy criticized the “orchestrated decision” of the electoral court regarding his impeachment and said that “you can no longer be right-wing in our country”.
