Luisa Baptista, 29, Brazilian triathlete, was run over while training this Saturday morning (23), in São Carlos. The athlete was cycling on the Abel Terrugi municipal road (SCA-329), when a motorcycle collided head-on with her bicycle. The road is often used for training, as it is empty.
Luisa underwent surgery on Saturday afternoon and is in serious condition. She suffered pneumotrauma, rib, collarbone and leg fractures and head trauma.
She was treated at Santa Casa de São Carlos and, after being stabilized, will be transferred to a larger Unimed hospital.
According to his club, Sesi São Carlos, “at the time of the accident, it was found that a motorcycle was involved, which collided with the bicycle.” Previously, the club had reported the involvement of a car, which was denied by the expert.
“I’m talking to her parents, the COB doctor [Comitê Olímpico do Brasil] Rodrigo Sasson is already in contact with the hospital to monitor, we are worried. The situation is not under control, and we are praying for everything to work out,” said Marco La Porta, vice-president of the COB.
The triathlete was champion in the individual and mixed category at the Pan-American Games in Lima, Peru, in 2019. She was the first Brazilian woman to win the title in triathlon.
Luisa also won silver (2018) and bronze (2017) in two stages of the triathlon World Cup and represented Brazil at the Tokyo Olympic Games.
