TRE maintains impeachment of the governor of Roraima

The Regional Electoral Court of Roraima (TRE-RR) confirmed this Tuesday (21) the revocation of the mandate of Governor Antonio Denarium (PP). He was re-elected in 2022 and was tried, in August, for distributing basic food baskets during the election. The governor’s defense can still appeal to the Superior Electoral Court (TSE). Meanwhile, Denarium remains in office.
In the August decision, the judges understood that Denarium violated electoral legislation by promoting a program to distribute basic food baskets in 2022. In this Tuesday’s judgment, they decided to make only a small adjustment to the decision, to clarify that it is a “cassation diploma”, and not a “revocation of license plate”.
The TRE judged the motion for clarification presented by the defense as an appeal. The TRE-RR sentence also provides for a fine of R$ 100 thousand and the holding of new elections in the state, if the TSE confirms the revocation of the mandate, informed the Brazil Agency.
“We continue to believe that this decision in the TSE will be reversed. We will continue working for the state and doing what has not been done in recent decades. I respect justice, but I will seek to clarify all the issues raised and present the necessary counterpoints to reestablish tranquility in a state that it is working”, said Denarium, in a note sent to the press.
