TRE Amapá receives last batch of new model of electronic voting machines – News of Brazil

The ballot box park at the Amapá Regional Electoral Court (TRE-AP) was one hundred percent renewed with the arrival of 122 electronic voting machines on Monday (26). The last batch consists of the UE 2022 model units.
From the year 2024, TRE Amapá will start operating with the 2020 and 2022 models, with 1,322 ballot boxes for the 2022 model and 828 for the 2020 model. In total, 2,150 pieces of equipment will be available for this year’s election in the state, so that voters can go to the polls to choose their representatives, mayors and councilors, in the 16 municipalities of Amapá.
The newly arrived ballot boxes go through the asset registration and management process, and once the procedures are complete, the technical teams from the Information Technology Secretariat (STI) will begin testing the software and hardware. The equipment will be stored in the warehouse of the 10th Electoral Zone, south of Macapá.
The president of TRE Amapá, judge João Lages, reinforces that the renewal of the electronic voting machine park is essential for the 2024 election due to the innovations used in the new models, which guarantees security and agility in the counting of elections.
“With the renewal of the electronic voting machine park, TRE-AP is among the 5 states in the North region to hold the 2024 election with the park completely renovated and with cutting-edge technology”, he said.
In the month of November 2023, the Amapá Electoral Court had already received a batch of 1,332 new electronic voting machines, model UE 2022. With the shipment, the old models, dated 2009, 2010 and 2011, which have already reached their life cycle useful, have been replaced. The 2015 model ballot boxes were transferred to the Pará TRE and the equipment dated 2013 was sent to another Regional Office.

The EU 2020 and EU 2022 model electronic voting machines feature significant technological advances, such as improved accessibility features, improvements in security, transparency and efficiency.
Launched by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), the UE 2020 electronic ballot box had a redesigned design, with a keyboard repositioned in relation to the LED screen and the polling station terminal with a touch screen. The 2022 model, which will make its debut in the 2024 Elections, has the most powerful processor, making it 18 times faster than the 2015 model; cryptographic perimeter certified by the Brazilian Public Key Infrastructure (ICP Brasil); in addition to an improved encryption mechanism, using the E521 type cryptographic algorithm (or EdDSA), considered one of the most accurate in the world.
