Traveler says how he decided to visit every country in the world – 12/27/2023 – Robson Jesus

Growing up in Brazil’s largest metropolis and financial center, Lucas Saad graduated in civil engineering at USP, with part of the course taken in Germany, where he lived for just over a year.

Upon returning to Brazil, he began his career in the real estate sector, where he participated in the foundation and became one of the partners and head of development of a leading company in the student housing sector, an experience concurrent with his postgraduate degree at Insper in business management.

Below is an account of his transition from his career as an engineer to his life as a traveler across all countries. His profile is @passaporte201.

“Since I was little, despite not being very familiar with books, I was in love with one of them. A Children’s Day gift from my father, along with some Hot Wheels cars, which he thought would be forgotten on the shelf. But no. “Atlas da Turma da Mônica” fascinated me. That book full of flags, maps and images, illustrating the different cultures and the immense diversity of our planet, which somehow managed to make me see how big the world is.

And so I grew up, getting great grades in geography, especially when the subjects focused on geopolitics or the geography of more distant, lesser-known countries. That interested me a lot. But there was a question that neither geography classes nor the atlas could answer. How many countries are there in the world? I continued with this doubt for a long time, which increased my interest even more.

In 2012, in my first year of college, I still had almost no international experience, but I was determined to live abroad because I knew I needed to explore. The destiny? I looked at the map and pointed to the center of the European continent. “If I live here, I’m sure it will be much easier to travel.”

In 2015, I passed the selection process at my university, which gave me a full scholarship and, in June, at the beginning of summer, at the age of 20, I started my life in Germany.

Of all the almost 400 days I spent outside Brazil, more than 30% of them were away from home, somewhere in Europe, the USA and Morocco discovering places, cultures and people. And, of course, discovering myself. There were more than 15 trips and more than 30 countries visited. And as a bonus, I also discovered a dream: to do this on a global scale. It was the only way to explore that atlas in person.

Upon returning to Brazil, despite being immersed in the São Paulo market, with recognition and merit for the good work I was delivering, which led me to a prosperous career in the financial sense, I remember spending the 11 months I lived behind a computer in the office thinking and planning what I would do in that single month that the company gave me vacation.

In six years, there were five more trips abroad, always with a backpack on my back and few plans. Living the life I always wanted. And, when I returned, despite being energized by the good times I had experienced, I had a flea behind my ear wondering why I had to live another life for more than 90% of my time, to only enjoy it for a month. What led me to reach the trigger of my career.

At the end of November 2021, upon returning from my vacation trip to Costa Rica and Panama with my brother, I was surprised by my partner with a proposal for an increase in my executive position, accompanied by an increase in salary and company shares. I managed to make my career transition and I’m currently in my country number 60.”
