The program has already performed more than 110,000 cataract surgeries, with immense positive results, including monitoring by the Public Ministry. However, the national press is now beginning to show the 104 surgeries that presented unusual reactions.
The state health secretary, Silvana Vedovelli, reports that a hyper-aggressive fungus called fusarium caused the infection in the eyeballs of those affected. The same happened in other states that also work with the Mais Visão program, such as Pará.
The governor of the neighboring state, Helder Barbalho, has been attacked by political opponents, due to the action of the fusarium fungus.
In Amapá, the same political nuance has been given against senator Davi Alcolumbre, who obtained the resources for Mais Visão, and the current minister of integration and regional development, former governor Waldez Góes, as well as the current manager Clécio Luís, these , partners for the successful development of the program.
