Toffoli and STF candidates go to dinner for a lawyer – 02/13/2023 – Mônica Bergamo

Social leaders, ministers of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), judges, judges, lawyers, bankers, businessmen and businesswomen and ministers of the Lula government gathered for a dinner in honor of lawyer Marco Aurélio de Carvalho , coordinator of the Prerogatives group, on Friday (10).

The tribute was offered by lawyer Fábio Tofic Simantob. The two have been friends since they studied at PUC-SP, and faced each other on opposing plates to command the Academic Center 22 de Agosto.

“He told me ‘this student movement thing lasts for three, four years. That’s the way it is because from now on we will be friends'”, stated Simantob in his speech. “He just didn’t foresee that we wouldn’t turn into great friends, but into brothers,” he continued.

Marco Aurélio, in turn, honored several guests, but especially Justice Ricardo Lewandowski, for the “legacy” he will leave at the STF.

He also mentioned minister Dias Toffoli, who was present, and praised his “courage” in bringing up controversial issues in court at the time of Operation Lava Jato, such as the end of second-instance imprisonment.

Among those present were also the president of Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks), Isaac Sidney, banker André Esteves (BTG), judge Costa Wagner, from the Court of Justice of SP, former mayor Marta Suplicy and her husband, the businessman Marcio Toledo, the judge of the STJ Sebastião Reis, the former ministers of Justice José Eduardo Cardozo and Nelson Jobim, the federal deputy Rui Falcão (PT-SP), the minister of Agrarian Development, Paulo Teixeira, the state deputy Emídio de Souza and the Secretary of Justice of SP, Fabio Prieto.

The main names remembered to succeed Lewandowski in the STF were also invited, and attended the tribute: judge Simone Schreiber, from the Federal Regional Court of the 2^The Region, law professors Pedro Serrano, Lenio Streck and Manoel Caetano and lawyer Dora Cavalcanti circulated among several lawyers, such as Antonio Carlos de Almeida Castro (Kakay) and Antonio Claudio Mariz de Oliveira.
